Book Review 12

I read "The Wife of Bath's Tale-What do women want most?" written by Geoffrey Chaucer. Once there was a young knight who had done a very bad thing: he had broken the laws which all knights must keep. King Arthur said "He must die." But the queen and her ladies were sad because they liked the young knight very much. So the queen thought for a little time, then she said to the knight, "You shall live, if you can tell me that answer to this question: What does a aomen want most of all?" The knight thought it's very hard question, if he cannot find out the answer, he must die. He asked many kinds of people, and he got some answers. Many of the answers seemed very good answers, but none of them seemed to be right. At last a year had passed, the knight had to go back and take his answer to the queen. He worried about his life, then suddenly, one very old, very ugly woman sat near him. She gave him right answer with one condition. Her wish is marry with this knight, so she proposed marriage to him, but he said don't want to marry. But the knight and her talked each other for a long time, he loved her. And then, they married and lived happily together all their lives.

Book Review 11

I read "All Gold Canyon" written by Jack London. This story is very short, so I could read quite easily. The canyon was a beautiful place, between two high mountains. There are many trees and different colour flowers, and pools of clean water in the deep canyon. The animals loved the canyon, and they lived very happily. Then the animals heard a man, they heard him singing as he came to their canyon. One man came down the side of the mountain into the canyon. This man was a gold miner. There were many men like this in the North, their purpose is look for gold. They knew gold would make them rich. The man came to this canyon to look for gold, because he wanted to be rich. The man went to work with his tools. He took his shovel and pan and went to one of the pools of water, then he saw the gold dust. He knew he had found the right place. The next day, he took his tools and went to work again. There was a lot of gold dust in the pool. Then he heard a sound, it was a small sound. He thought it was a bird's sound, but later, he noticed it was the sound of a man. He did not look up because he was too frightened. Suddenly, the bullet came from the back, then he fell to the ground. It was the another miner's handiwork. They quarreled and shot each other, and another miner died. He covered the body hole with earth. Then he tried to look for gold again. Now, the beautiful canyon become a quite and happy place again.

Book Review 10

I read the sequel to a "The Call of the Wild", I couldn't read all one time. Thirty days after one of the dogs named Daved was shot, so their mail job was over. Charles, his wife Mercedes, her brother Hal, were the new owners. But they were very silly travellers. They had too many baggages, so the dogs couldn't pull the sledge easily. If they couldn't do it, Charles hit them with a whip. It was a very hard journey, almost them thought. The long days went by, the travellers were unhappy, the dogs were hungry and unhappy, too. One day they met one man named John Thornton, who had two dogs. John Thornton is very good and kind man. He helped Buck from the whip, and John said "This dog stays with me." So Buck lived with John Thornton and his two dogs. John Thornton and Buck really loved each other. But John after, Thornton were killed by Indians. Buck was angry, the most angry he had ever been. Buck killed the Indians, they has never seen an animals so wild. Now, Buck is the strongest one of wolves, not dog.

Book Review 9

I read "The Call of the Wild" written by Jack London. In southern California, one dog named Buck lived for four years there. Buck had a lazy, pleasant life, but one day Manuel, who is Buck's owner's gardener, lost all his money, and Buck's life changed. Manuel wanted money, so he sold Buck to two men named Perrault and Francois. They took Buck on a train going north. Perrault and Francois are very bad men, they often hit Buck with the stick again and again. But Buck did not resistance for them, because he learned he could not win against the men, the stick and the rope. The men bought some new dogs, named Curly and Dave. Curly tried to make friends with one of other dogs, but the dogs attacked Curly, and in a few minutes later, Curly lay on the ground covered with blood. He was dead. Buck was frightened and sad, he didn't understand why the animals killed his friend. He got angry, but he knew he couldn't fight all the dogs at one time. In the north it is so cold, in winter that everything is covered with ice and snow. Buck and other dogs had to pull a large sledge, the men in there. They pulled the sledge all day. Buck wanted to live, so he thought he must become the strongest dog of all.

Book Review 8

I read "Scooby-Doo and the Haunted Castle" written by James Gelsey. It was quite interesting story, but I couldn't read all, I read half of it now. This story's main character is Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, Fred, Scooby-Doo, and so on. There are many characters in this book. They are Mystery Machine first, and suddenly it's hit a huge bump and skidded off the road. They got into a panic, and they didn't know what happened. Moreover Shaggy and Scooby lost their mates, so they headed to Montgomery Castle to look for their friends. Then they met some new people, Chives, Barbara Redding, Sonny DiPesto, Sally, and so on. They have a little strange atmosphere I think. Maybe they will go to some other place from now on.

Book Review 7

I read "Rip van Winkle" written by Washington Irving last week. I studied about Washington Irving in literary history class, but I don't know well about him. So, I thought I want to read his book.
In the year 1765, Rip van Winkle lived in a village at the foot of the Catskill mountains. He was very simple and kind man, but his wife was very unkind to him, but he did not get angry with her. Rip didn't like work, so he went outside with his dog, Wolf. They went away into the forest. One afternoon, Rip went on and on through the forest till he came to the foot of one of the highest Catskill mountains. Rip sat on the little grassy hill and looked at the river, after the time, he fell asleep. When he woke, there were already dark around him. He overslept, and he tried to go back home quickly. But the village was changed, it was bigger, more people in it, many houses he had never seen before, and the old houses that he knew were gone. He couldn't believe about this, and looked for his family. This story is countinue a little more, but it's quite difficult for me to understand, so I should read this again.

Book Review 6

I read "The Emperor's New Clothes" this week. It's called "Hadakano osama" in Japanese. I have heard this title, but I don't know at all how story it is. And I chose written by easy words one, and it was only seven pages, so I could read this quite easily.

Once there was an emperor who liked new clothes, and he bought some new clothes every day. Many people came to see him. One day two lazy men came, and they said, "We can make very beautiful cloth, and besides, it's so beautiful that foolish people can't see it." Then the emperor gave a lot of money to the two lazy men. The emperor waited and waited, ready to his new cloth, but two lazy men did not work at all, they just got money. The emperor wanted his new cloth, but he didn't want to go to the two men, because he was afraid. He thoguht "If I can't see the cloth, I am a foolish man and should not be emperor." So he asked the greatest man in his country to look at the new cloth, but the great man didn't see any cloth at all. Because, there wasn't anything there! The two lazy men told a lie to everybody. From the very beginning, they can't make beautiful cloth, and such things are not exist there. But the emperor wanted to believe he's not foolish man, so he pretended to see the cloth. Then the two lazy man said to the emperor, "Please take off your clothes, and we'll put these new clothes that make just right for you." So the emperor took off his clothes, and then the two men pretended to dress him in the new clothes. Nobody wanted to seem foolish, so no one would say that he couldn't see it. But of course, the emperor has nothing on! The emperor was angry because he knew he has nothing on. But he had to go on through the streets, and the great men and the servants walked on after him, looking at the clothes that were not there. Only he humiliate himself.

Book Review 5

I read "The Little Mermaid" written by Hans Andersen this week. I like his books so much. It's called "Ningyohime" in Japanese, and very famous story in Japan, too.

Once there was the very beautiful sea the water is very blue. And the sea king and his six children, and thier grandmother lived there. These six children were beautiful mermail princesses, so they had no feet. The top of their body was like a girls body, but the rest of it was like the body of a fish. Above all, the youngest princess was the most beautiful. They can go to the top of the sea when they become fifteen. The little mermaid who is the most youngest, really wanted to go to the land, and want to see many things. At last she became fifteen, so she can go there now. Then she saw a lot of richly-dressed men, and she fell in love with young prince with big blue eyes on the ship. She stayed looking through the window of the ship, then suddenly, the storm hit to ship, and it began to go down in the sea. The little mermaid looked for the young prince, and she quickly to his head out of the water. So he was alive. But he didn't know who helped him, but the little mermaid wanted to see him again, so she looked him out of the ship many times. And she hoped she want to be the people on land, so she visited the old woman who like witch. If she take the magic drink, she can become the people on land. But if she drink it, she won't be able to speak and sing, and when she walk, she will have a lot of pain. Even so, she said she want to become the people on land. Then she could become the people on land, and the young prince loved her so much. But he married the beautiful princess who lives in the next country. The little mermaid still loved him, so she was very sad. She came back to the sea, and her body was changing into water, so now she is mermaid, not human. She felt pain of parting, but I think she could have nice time with him, even it was very short time and couldn't marry with him. It was very good story, but little feel sad.

Book Review 4

I read "The Nightingale" written by Hans Andersen this week. I have heard the name of "Nightingale", but in fact, I don't know it's bird name. I hear it's sing very beautifully.

Once there was a king who lived in a beautiful palace, and he had a very big and beautiful garden there. Many people came to the king's city, palace, and garden. But when they heard the little bird, they all said, "Nothing is as good as the nightingale." But the king don't know it at all, and he has never heard how nightingale singing. So he said want to hear and see the nightingale. He called his head servant to take the nightingale for him. So the servants asked little girl who was helping to cook the king's food. She knows it very well. Finally, they found the nightingale, and they asked for it to sing in the king's palace. The little nightingale sang so beautifully that the king began to cry, and so everyone began to cry. The king and everybody were so happy then. One day someone brought a box to the king. Inside, it was a nightingale that someone had made, but it could sing and looked more beautiful, its body was covered with jewels. But one little living nightingale had gone out of the open window. The king was so sad, and artificial nightingale were not sing.

After five years, the king became ill, and people thought he's not going to live. And the king was also think he's going to die. Then a beautiful song came through the window. It was the little nightingale who lived in the wood. The king was so glad and he thanked for it very much. And then, he gradually became fine.

Book Review 3

I read "The Ugly Duckling" written by Hans Andersen this week. It's called "Minikui Ahirunoko" in Japanese. Of course, I have read this book before written in Japanese. It's quite famous story, and very interesting for me. And it's written by easy words, so it's not so hard to read.

One day some ducklings were born in very beautiful country. They were all pretty ducklings, but only one was different from others. He is very big and ugly duckling. Because of he was ugly, no one wanted to speak to him or to go near him. Even his mother, brothers and sisters were not kind to him. It makes him so sad, so he ran out of his hometown.

Later, he met some geese, and they said to him "We like you." But they died by shooting guns. And then, he met some people and animals, but they all not so kind. He had very hard times.

After the time, he was bigger than before, and he could fly high up in the sky. Then he saw beautiful white swans, and thought "I'll go to them, but I'm so ugly so they'll kill me." But he wanted to go with them, so he put his head down near the water, and he saw...! He saw his own body, it was not the body of a fat, ugly duckling. In fact, he had come from a swan's egg. He is very young and beautiful swan!

So now, he getting along with some beautiful swans and little children. He is the most beautiful and popular swan, everybody said so.

Book Review 2

I read "The Prince and his Servants" this week. This story is about one prince thought want to marry with beautiful princess, and he find some servants. The queen who is the mother of beautiful princess is very spiteful person, so she always give something to do which is very difficult and hard. Many princes wanted to marry the princess, and they tried to the things queen said before. But nobody could do the things, so they were all killed. Every month, some new princes came, and was killed.
But prince Carol who is the son of a poor king who had a very small country and very little money, he was ambitious for marry with her, so he began his journey, and looked for some servants. He could find Fat Man, Big Ear, Quick Eyes, Cold Man, and Long Arms. They each have great abilities, and the prince Carol could success to do difficult problems cooperate with them.
Finally, the queen gave up, and went away another country. So then, prince Carol and beautiful princess were married, and lived happily ever after, of course, his good servants lived with them pleasantly.

Book Review

I read "The Table, the Donkey, and the Stick" this week. It's very short story, and I heard it's quite famous story in the world, but I have never heard this title till now. But it was very simple, almost words written by easy one, so I could read this quite easy. This story's characters are three brothers, Tom, Bob, Jack, and their father, and a bad man. All sons were hard worker, so they could get very nice things. Tom got a magic table, Bob got a magic donkey, but both of it were stolen by a bad man. Tom and Bob wanted to show it their father, but they couldn't do that. Others, Jack got a magic stick. If any man is unkind or unjust to people, say magic words, and, it's attack for them. Jack used this for a bad man who stolen two nice things from Jack's brothers. And then, Jack got back it beautifully from him. In the end, of course, the old father and his three sons lived happily ever after.
